I hope you would agree with me that “Good Evening Ghana” on Metro TV is one of the longest running programmes on our screens and if there is one person who does not miss any edition, then it is my dad.
This is a talk show (or should we say, discussion programme) which has an interviewer asking very probing and serious questions about national affairs to elicit answers from great personalities invited to the studio. The setting in the studio is simple and sound quality is perfect (except for the roaring noise of airplanes which occasionally interfere with viewers’ concentration).
One daring presenter I respect for his straight-forward, no-nonsense and fearless way of interviewing guests is Paul Adom Okyere who has been away for over a year now. Well, though he has left his trademark behind, other presenters who have those same potentials for handling the show are Charles Sam and Nana Yaa Ofori-Atta.
These two may not be as serious-faced as Paul was but they also ask very intelligent questions which would fetch the right answers the public would demand for. Another difference between Paul and these two are that while Paul minimises his use of gestures, these other two are fond of throwing their hands here and there to emphasise a point they want to make with their words. Besides this, they control the show as good moderators should.
Charles Sam seems to me like the soft type and tries to ease a lot of tension in the studio when things get heated up by generating smiles on the faces of guests. Nana Yaa, on the other hand, seldom smiles and when asking questions, she uses a lot of references due to serious research to make sure that guests understand the questions and answer appropriately. I hope you have also noticed her appealingly heavy British accent; I can’t tell if that is LAFA but I just love its originality.
These two presenters make the program interesting for both studio guests and audience and they definitely are a perfect pair of replacement for Paul Adom Okyere. I wonder where Paul is by the way.
