Israel Laryea is a broadcast journalist, news anchor and a programme host with the most reputable media houses in Ghana, Joy 99.7 FM and TV3.
He started at TV3 as a production assistant with the entertainment department and was helping in the production of programmes such as the Living Word, Gold Blast, Hitz Video and others, including Talking Drums and In Person. What really did the magic was his smooth voice, which quickly made him take up the role of doing voice-overs for programmes and promotions.
He later blended audio presentation with visual as one of the station’s newscasters in September 1999.
Israel attended the Osu Presbyterian Preparatory School and continued to the Okuapeman Senior High School for his “O” Level. He later had his Advanced Level at Accra Academy.
Currently, he has a first degree in Marketing from the Ghana Institute of Marketing and Public Administration (GIMPA). While at GIMPA he moved to Joy FM but was later asked to join the TV3 team again, and has since been managing the two jobs.
On his greatest challenge in life, he said, “during the election 2000 I was asked to host a panel discussion to monitor the election barely a few weeks after I joined the station and also when Kojo left for the U.S.A I had to do the programme alone.”
Israel admitted to SHOWGHANA that he had no role model or mentor and rather looked up to everyone who has something positive to offer society, and that professionally he believes every broadcaster has something unique, which he learns from.
He is married to Louisa, with two kids and spends his leisure time with his family.
With his eight years of experience in the media he advised the youth to stay focused in whatever they wished to do and also explore angles that bring in opportunities. He added that they should go to other places when other doors are closed since that was not the end of the world.
