Mid Morning programs on radio in the city of Accra are one challenging time for individual hosts to creatively entertain and market for its station after long discussions on the major morning shows and Ohemaa on Top 103.1 Fm has equipped herself enough to pose a great threat to neighboring stations when it comes to brunch time programs.
Since she took over from Deloris Frimpong Manso (Delay), the former host of Adwumamere three months ago, the young lady known as Harey Adjoa Yeboa Asuama (Umu) aka Ohemaa, who is in her early twenty’s, has proved beyond all doubts that she is really in her own shoes.
Making it loud with the slogan “Ohemea woye gye”, she is heard with lots of confidence throughout the weekday on the show proudly produced by Kwaku Konadu, popularly known as DJ Spicy, the host of the local Top 40 Hitz Countdown on Saturdays and Top City Jam, Drive Time from Monday through to Wednesdays. Josephine Oppong Yeboah- Lady Joy, who also host Lunchtime also support in producing this unique program.
Interestingly, Ohemaa has a unique style of presentation, which draws listeners of various languages including Ga, Hausa, Asante Twi and the English Language among others, to stay tuned anytime she is on air. Her flow and switch in languages makes the listener enjoy her quality presentation. To add more spice to the program she occasionally gives away souvenirs and other gift items which also goes a long way to enrich Adwumamere.
When asked why Top Radio and not any other station; she said; “I like Top Radio because they have a unique style of presentation many people are now coming to terms with and besides I enjoy the challenge of the job I am doing since I derive a lot of encouragement from it. I am here to make a mark for all to see”.
She is the only female among seven children by her lovely mother, Madam Joyce Ama Thompson, a Ga and Fante, to whom she expresses lots of gratitude. She is a broadcaster by profession and has worked with Nkosuo and Zuria Fm in Kumasi and Sky Fm in Sunyani and currently writes for three print media houses in Accra. Before being assigned this role to host Adwumamere, she was a newscaster presenting Twi and English news. Ohemaa acknowledged the CEO of Top Radio, Mr. Boadu and his wife for the privilege to unearth her talent and further to Events and Promotion Manager - Nana Nketia, Kwaku Konadu (DJ Spicy), Lady Joy, Fada B Sky Fm and Pollo Espozito of Light Fm in Kumasi and all who helped in grooming her for their motivations and moral support in her endeavors.
Ohemaa is one of the young ladies who have taken on the responsibility of “matching” their male counterparts “mic-to-mic” in the capital city from 9am to 12pm. Ohemaa might not be an household name but this is one true gem who knows how to thrill her listeners. Don’t forget to make a date with Ohemaa every weekday and experience another side of a young lady who is determined to make a mark in the radio industry.
