It definitely takes some doing for Africa’s premier satellite television provider, DSTV, to recognize the unique talent of an actress from the continent and even more so to dedicate a month to screenings of her movies.
Following closely on the heels of a week of Van Vickers films, Africamagic has turned its focus on another Ghanaian- the beautiful and enchanting actress, Nadia Buari, and has began showing her films every Thursday.
The beautiful and attractive Nadia Buari, the daughter of Alhaji Sidiku Buari, a well-known and successful musician in Ghana who is the Vice President of the Federation of International Musicians and the acting chairman of the Copyright Society of Ghana), and girl friend of Chelsea star, Michael Essien, is an actress of great promise.
Nadia has starred in a number of African movies, including Beyoncé, The President's Daughter; Darkness of Sorrows; Mummy's Daughter, The Return of Beyoncé, Lovers Creek, Blood Fight, Slave to Lust and Playboy.
Her other films are Darkness of Sorrows, In the Eyes of my Husband, American Boy, Divine Love, Dangerous Mission, Beauty and the Beast and Ka Wonan Toso.
Known for her beauty and flawless articulation, Nadia is often cast as the lead female romantic lead in films. She is also often cast alongside fellow Ghanaian actors Van Vicker and Jackie Agyemang.
Not a day goes by without a movie coming out with the face and talent of Nadia in it. The young lady intends to try her hands on directing her first movie and hopes to rely on her father to help since he has a great history of movie production.
Her hard work was rewarded with an award as Best Actress from Ghana at the Five Continents Annual Academy Awards ceremony in December 2007 in New York,USA.
Soon after winning that award, Nadia, the Directing major from the School of Performing Arts, University of Ghana, told Showbiz that she was looking forward to great times ahead during which she expects to get busy, much busier than she had been previously.
Nadia’s award as Best Actress took place at the glitzy Marriott Hotel where the Haitian community organisers have been holding the extravaganza for the past 10 years honouring film actors, directors and producers from Africa and of African descent.
Venus Films Productions 2007 movie Beyonce, which featured Nadia in the lead role with co-star Van Vicker is the movie that did the trick.
“I’ve been most pleased with this award because it comes from far away, from people I did not dream would be spending their time watching African movies, let alone a film from Ghana”, she told Showbiz.
She said that in a little while, she intends to try her hands on directing her first movie. “You know my dad is a very good film producer and I would rely on him greatly to offer me the needed guidance to come out with my first movie”, she said.
